Match report: Bootle v Lytham
Saturday, 9th June
Bootle 258 for 5, Lytham 99 all out.
Lytham suffered their biggest defeat for some time as a resurgent Bootle fired on all cylinders to re-establish their credentials as league champions.
Batting first, Bootle soon lost in form Ian Cockbain jnr to Marcus Sharp for 4.
Criag Prince (34), Stephen Parry (30) & David Snellgrove (15) all fell to the on form Sharp, but no support came from the other end.
Opening partner Michael Rigby was injured & Richard Openshaw suffered an off day with his 13 overs costing 83 runs. Sharp accounted for Ian Cockbain snr for just 8 runs to make it a family double,
but as Lythams bowlers tired, Graham Lloyd (89*) & Australian Adam Warren (72*) flayed them to all parts of the ground, allowing Skipper Ian Cockbain to declare at 258 for 5.
Worse was to come as both Lytham openers Anthony Mulligan (0) & Nick Knight (4) fell in Warrens opening spell.
Guy Roberts then became Stephen Parrys first victim as he tormented the Lytham batsmen with his off spin. He returned the inpressive figures of 6 for 32 as Lytham fell to their lowest total of the season.
Bootle conceded that this was their best team performance of the season & they hoped it would kick start their attempt to retain their league championship title. The win moves them up from fourth to third,
just one place behind Lytham, who despite the heavy loss, still hold on to second spot.
