Match report: LCC v Orrell Red Triangle
Lytham 2nd XI opened the season with an encouraging win at Orrell Red
Triangle. Skipper Patrick Ford had assembled an experienced team to
open the campaign against a young Orrell side showing real promise. Orrell won
the toss and elected to field, allowing Lytham to establish a total and
gain control of the game.
Good contributions from Kulwinder Videe(36) and Ian Watt(33) provided
the foundation for greater acceleration later in the innings. David
Cartmell, on his return to Lytham, held a batting masterclass as he stroked his way
to 57. He was supported by a robust unbeaten cameo from Matt Wilkinson
(36*) enabling Lytham to declare on 216 for 7.
In response, Orrell lost wickets at regular intervals until Cooper and
Hall looked to threaten in the middle order. Chris Hill made the vital
breakthrough dismissing Cooper for 42 but a remarkable burst of bowling
from Andrew Leslie delivered the points to Lytham. In just two overs, Leslie
demolished the late middle order with 4 wickets for 16 runs including a
hat-trick - an unforgettable spell of variety which bamboozled the
Orrell tail.
