Match Report: Lytham v Colwyn Bay

Lytham 200 all out. Colwyn Bay 160 all out

Lytham won by 40 runs.

Lytham toppled the ECB Premier League leaders in their own backyard & completed the double by once again displaying their never say die spirit.

Losing the toss again, they were once more invited to bat on a rain affected wicket. Openers Antony Mulligan & Simon Long were both watchful until Mulligan (15)was run out once again. Long soon followed for the same score & last weeks ECB NKO Cockspur Cup hero Guy Roberts faired no better as he departed for 14. Last weeks other century maker Lee Hilton went without troubling the scorers with Nick Knight (2) following quickly. This left Lytham on a perilous 54 for 4, but skipper Jimmy Wisniewski was still at the crease.

Marshalling his team, Jimmy farmed much of the bowling & started to attack. The leagues leading wicket taker Debasis Mohanty however was as always diificult to get away. Richard Openshaw (20) stayed wirth his captain as did Rob Dingle (11) & Marcus Sharp (17) & the score mounted steadily. Electing to bat on after tea, Lytham reached the respectable score of 200 before last man Martin Hackett became Mohanties fifth victim leaving Jimmy Wisniewski stranded on 92 not out.

Colwyn Bay's reply was soon in trouble as Michael Rigby removed opener Taylor (0) & Skipper Hugh Morris (7) in his opening burst. Marcus Sharp then joined the party claiming the wickets of Leach (13) & Chubb (3) before Hugh Roberts provided some resistance. Pitman (2) fell to Wisniewski but Parry supported Roberts as Colwyn Bay staged a middle order recovery after finding themselves at 42 for 5. Roberts was then run out for 38 & although Jenkins (11) & Mohanty (37) kept going for the runs, 21 year old Michael Rigby would not be denied & he retiurned his best ever ECB Premier League haul of 6 for 56 by removing Bays last four batsmen.

This victory cements Lytham's fourth place in the league, but allows Bootle to regain top spot.

Next Saturday, Lytham host fifth place Northern CC at Church Road, wickets 1.00pm.
