Lancashire Cup Quarter Final: Lytham U13 v Elton CC U13
Saturday9th June 2007
Lytham U 13’s advanced to the semi final of the Lancashire Cup beating Elton by 43 runs.
Having been put into bat Lytham didn’t have things all their own way and lost three early wickets in the face of some very tidy bowling backed up by some exceptional fielding from the Elton team.
However, Jason McGreehan; who opened the innings, was playing confidently and set about repairing the early damage, supported firstly by Harry Duff (16) and then by Elliott Dalgleish (18) as
Lytham began to build a platform for a respectable score. Lytham innings ended with a flourish with Ben Saunders hitting two sixes off the last two balls ensuring Lytham reached a total of 95 with
Jason McGreehan top scoring with 30 not out.
In reply Lytham quickly established a tight grip on the game with Harry (Mr dependable) Ashton and George Brookes bowling extremely tightly which resulted in Elton quickly falling behind the
required run rate. This allowed Lytham to bring on their slow bowlers who immediately began to take wickets with Nathan White taking 3 wickets and Ben Saunders 2 wickets as Lytham cruised to
victory. Whilst Lytham bowlers performed extremely well Lytham’s victory owed a great deal to the standard of fielding and catching which resulted in three run outs and one of the catches of the
season been taken by Emilio Arcinega.
