Lancashire Cup Final: Lytham U13 v Haslingden CC

Lytham U13 Win Lancashire Cup Final

Lytham U 13’s won Lancashire Cup final beating Haslingden by the narrow margin of 3 runs on Sunday morning at Lytham Cricket Club.

Haslingden fielding a number of Lancashire players won the toss and put Lytham in to bat on damp difficult wicket. Lytham’s batsman found the going tuff and steadily lost wickets with only Nathan White (25 runs) scoring freely. Fortunately Lytham’s lower order batsmen offered support and Lytham ground out a respectable if not spectacular 82 runs from their 20 overs.

If Haslingden had thought the game was going their way they were quickly rocked back on their heels when Andrew Walkden took an early wicket. Lytham’s opening bowlers George Brookes and Andrew Walkden again supported by some extremely tight fielding made the Haslingden’s batsmen work hard for any runs and gradually Lytham began to exert some pressure. With the overs running out wickets were falling at regular intervals as Lytham’s fielding came into its own, a number of great pieces of fielding resulted in further wickets falling and Haslingden were eventually dismissed 3 runs short of Lytham’s total.

Lytham will now represent Lancashire in the National U13 championship in July – Well done lads.
