Lancashire Cup Cricket for Juniors at Lytham CC
Success they say, breeds succes, but it also brings fixture congestion.
After Friday evenings highly successful "Skills Clinic" at Church road, the under 13s agreed to play away Saturday morning, stumps 9.30am, in order to complete their Lancashire cup match before
the pitch was required for a senior league game in the afternoon.
It was worth getting up early as they won & in doing so progressed to the Lancashire Cup semi final stage for the second time in two years. They achieved this landmark despite having eight
players unavailable as they were required to play for school.
As if that wasnt enough, the same medicine was dished out to the under 15s on Sunday, who like their younger club mates had to start at 9.30am in order to be clear of the pitch in time for the
2nd X1 cup match to start at 1.30pm. The 1st X1 were also competing in the league KO away at Northop Hall, so the weekend could not have been busier.
The under 15s were competing for a place in the quarter finals. Their opponents were Horwich CC from the Bolton League.
Lytham bowled & fielded well to restricted Horwich to 104 for 4 in their alotted overs. Joe Settle was their outstanding batsman. He retired on 50 not out.
In reply, Lytham made a brisk start, but then became becalmed. As the pressure mounted, nerves became frayed, but then as scores drew level at the end of the penultimate over, all seemed
to be ending well. Even at this late stage however, more drama was to follow. In the final over, a run out was followed by another wicket & the winning run only came off the penultimate ball.
Whereas the juniors were ecstatic, Mums & Dads all felt the need of a quick lie down !
At the time of writing, our opponents in the next round are unknown & so are the dates of the fixtures, but we look forward to sqeezing in the fixtures as long as the winning run holds.
