Match report: Lytham v Huyton

Lytham 141 all out. Huyton 91 all out

Lytham lost the toss & were predictably inserted on a track which had been rain affected. A mixture of watchfulness & aggression seemed to be the best way to cope with conditions & thankfully, Lytham had one of two batsman employing each style.

Guy Roberts (48) scored 36 runs in boudaries, whilst Nick Knight (45) accumulated runs patiently. Both deserved half centuries, but fell just short. The rest of Lythams line up failed to come to terms with conditions & indeed some of the days shots are best forgotten as quickly as possible.

A total of 141 was worth considerably more on the day, even though conditions were easing in the warm sunshine & second bottom Huyton faired even worse than Lytham with only two batsmen recording double figures. Captain Mark Wilkie (23) was one of Richard Openshaws 3 victims & Hutton (29) one of Marcus Sharps 2 victims on the day. Michael Rigby, 3 for 31 & Rob Dingle, 2 for 21 each bowled well as Huyton crumbled to 91 all out leaving Lytham victors by the unlikely margin of 50 runs.

This win moves Lytham into fourth spot, with a testing visit to league leaders Colwyn Bay scheduled for next Saturday.
