Match report: ECB Premier League - Lytham V Maghull
Liverpool Competition ECB Premier League
Maghull 150 all out. Lytham 151 for 6
Lytham's fine run continued when Maghull won the toss & elected to bat on a fine warm day at Church Road.
Ex Lancashire batsman Paddy McKeown began briskly before losing his opening partner Gillespie to the ever improving Richard Openshaw for 7.
McKeown was then joined by overseas star Powar & together they began to build a stand. Openshaw then removed McKeown LBW for 30 & Sharp accounted for both
Powar (26) & McDonnell (3), before number 5 batsman Roots held the remainder of the innings together with a patient 52 before that man Openshaw also removed him LBW.
The tail failed to wag & Openshaw recorded another five wicket haul to take his total for the season so far to 26.
Maghull batted for 65.4 overs.
A brisk response by Lytham ended when Powar entered the attack & accounted for Simon Long (26) in his first over.
Nick Knight then fell to an outstanding leg side catch by keeper Forrest off Swiers & Guy Roberts fell tamely to the spin of Powar.
This brought together Skipper Jimmy Wisniewski & Lee Hilton, who pushed the score along nicely, before the dismissal of Hilton (19) saw two further wickets fall with the winning post in sight.
Wisniewski was joined by Marcus Sharp & the target was achieved without further panic in just 32.1 overs.
This win keeps Lytham in second place in the ECB Premier League as all the top four also recorded victories.
Next Saturday, Lytham travel to fourth placed Bootle where they are sure to encounter some far more enterprising cricket than that displayed by Maghull.
