Liverpool Competition ECB Premier League: Lytham v Wallasey
Lytham 222 for 9 dec. Wallasey 148 all out.
Yet again, Lytham lost the toss & were invited to bat on a fast track at Wallasey.
Lytham were soon in trouble when first Simon Long ( 1)& then Guy Roberts (0) fell to the pace of Barry Beaver.
Jimmy Wisniewski & Antony Mulligan started to build a recovery, but when Mulligan departed on 13 Lytham were precariously placed at 40 for 3.
Lee Hilton then joined his captain & together they crafted a stand worth 57. Each recorded his half century with Hiltons 52 containing six fours and one six while
Wisniewski took just 55 balls containing nine fours for his 50.
Batting at number seven, Alan Flood contributed a good 26 & once more Marcus Sharps improvement with the bat yielded a welcome 30 not out which contained one straight six.
A patchy scorecard was boosted by 42 extras & Lytham in search of maximum points, declared early after just 53.3 overs.
Wisniewski's confidence in his bowling attack was well founded as both Sharp & Micheal Rigby claimed early victims. John Pugh (61) stood firm as wickets continued to fall.
The introduction of Rob Dingle into the attack produced the breakthrough as he snared three victims including Pugh, in just seven overs.
Leg spinner Wisniewski operated in tandem with off spinner Dingle & he too bagged three wickets as the Wallasey innings fell away tamely.
Maximum points were duly obtained by Lytham, but as all the other top sides responded accordingly, Lytham stay in fifth position with just one match remaining.
With 14 wins under their belt, Lytham have already qualified for next seasons Lancashire Cup.
Southport & Birkdale provide the oposition for next Saturday finale at Church Road, stumps 12.00 noon.
They bring with them Australian Patrick Jackson who has already scored 1,000 runs for the season to go with his 60 wickets.
Lytham second X1 were held to a draw at home by leaders Northop Hall, but as third placed Formby lost, both Lytham & Northop Hall are promoted to the second X1 Premier League.
With one match left, Lytham & Northop Hall are tied on 357 points, so the outcome of the final match of the year on Saturday will determine who goes up as champions.
