Test Match Debut for ex Lytham overseas player
Chris Rogers, who played for Lytham Cricket Club in the Liverpool Competition ECB Premier League, makes his debut for Australia as opening batsman in the f
orthcoming test versus India.
An injury to Matthew Hayden has given left hander Rogers a dream debut on his home state WACA ground. Chris who has signed professional terms with Derbyshire CCC for the second time, opened the batting for Lytham the year after they gained promotion to the ECB Premier League.
His prolific scoring helped Lytham settle into the higher division, a position they have held ever since.
"We wish Chris all the luck in the world" said Lytham CC spokesman Peter Harris. "Chris has been spoken of before as a possible test match player, but at the age of 30, he may well have considered his time had passed. At Lytham, I remember Chris losing his wicket twice in consecutive weeks, trying to hook short balls, which were slow to arrive early in the season. He soon learned & cut out the shot for the rest of the year, amassing over 1,500 runs as a result.
I can envisage some bleary eyed Lytham Cricketers over the next few days as they tune in to onernight events in Perth" Harris concluded.
Another ex Lytham overseas player Peter Fulton, has also been enjoying test status with New Zealand. He missed the ill fated tour to South Africa, but featured in the easy win against Bangladesh last week.
"Its great to see them on the TV & to witness their progress. We have a framed signed shirt from Peter at the club" said Harris. "I believe somebody somewhere has a Pura Milk Australian shirt from Chis" he added. "We will have to track it down & see if we can frame that also."
